Confirmed: Reliance launching its ‘ultra-affordable’ smartphone with Google. Jio 5G Soon?

Telecoms giant Reliance Jio has committed to rolling out 5G smartphone and services in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by Diwali 2022 and across India by December 2023. Speaking at  Reliance Industries’ annual meeting on Monday, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani said his 5G network in Jio will be the largest and most advanced in the world. A self-contained 5G architecture, the largest and best combination of 5G spectrum and new carrier aggregation technology, he said Jio’s triple benefit would be an unprecedented combination of coverage, capacity, quality and affordability. He said, Ambani. Reliance Jio was the most active and winning bidder in the recently closed 5G auction. The first-place buyer spent 88,078 kroner, while the second-placed buyer was more than double that of  Bharti Airtel Ltd. The billionaire added that RIL had invested 2 billion rupees in Jio’s 5G network, which is already powered by Jio’s proprietary end-to-end 5G stack and has served “hundreds of millions of users” since day one. “We have enough capacity to serve 2020,” Ambani said. Jio is the only operator building his 5G network standalone from day one, so the company calls it “the true his 5G network.” He also unveiled his 5G solution to allow customers to enjoy fibre-like data speeds wirelessly reached JioAirFiber. “With JioAirFiber Single Device, you can quickly and easily connect your home or office to Gigabit Internet. JioAirFiber’s simplicity enables hundreds of millions of homes and offices to connect to superfast broadband in a short time. India could also rank among the top 10 countries for fixed broadband,” said Ambani.

JIO PHONE 5G?

Reliance Jio has confirmed it will launch an affordable 5G smartphone in India in collaboration with Alphabet-owned Google. Mukesh Ambani said at the 2022 Annual Meeting (AGM) that the telecom company is partnering with Google to develop “his super affordable 5G smartphone” for India, not revealing the name of the phone.
“We are working with Google to develop a very affordable 5G smartphone for India. We also leverage Google Cloud’s advanced capabilities to bring Jio’s private 5G stack and other 5 G-ready solutions to the domestic market. We will deliver to external users at scale,” Ambani said in his speech. Jio plans to roll out 5G services in the country by Diwali this year. Next-generation network services will be available first in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. After that, Jio will expand nationwide coverage by December 2023. Jio said he had pledged a total investment of Rs 20 crore for his 5G rollout plan, which will be the fastest in the world. “We are working closely with the world’s leading smartphone OEMs and are committed to supporting Jio’s True 5G,” said Mukesh Ambani. Jio’s upcoming 5G smartphone, rumour says it will be called the next JioPhone 5G. The smartphone is likely to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G SoC. It runs on its PragatiOS and can carry a 5,000mAh battery.
The smartphone features a 6.5-inch IPS screen in HD+ quality and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The handset is rumoured to come with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity. It will likely offer an 18-watt charging adapter with a USB Type-C port for charging.
