Tim Hortons is on track to open over 120 stores in India.

Tim Hortons Inc., sometimes known as Tim’s or Timmie’s, is a worldwide Canadian chain of cafes and restaurants. Tim Hortons is a fast-food restaurant chain with its headquarters in Toronto. As of June 30, 2022, it was Canada’s largest quick-service restaurant chain, with 5,352 locations throughout 15 nations. Tim Horton (1930–1974), a Canadian hockey player, and Jim Charade (1934–2009), an entrepreneur, launched the business in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. Horton and investor Ron Joyce formed a partnership in 1967, and after Horton passed away in 1974, Joyce took over the management of the business. The franchise grew to be worth billions of dollars in Joyce’s expansion. Charade quit the group in 1966 and returned for a while in 1970, then again from 1993 to 1996.

Tim Horton, who played in the National Hockey League from 1949 until his death in a car accident in 1974, created the company. The original Tim Hortons served hamburgers in North Bay, Ontario. Tim Horton Donuts, the chain’s first doughnut shop, debuted in Hamilton, Ontario, on May 17, 1964. Later, the name was shortened to “Tim Horton’s,” then “Tim Hortons,” dropping the possessive apostrophe. Horton met Ron Joyce, a former Hamilton police constable, shortly after opening the store. Joyce assumed ownership of the nascent Tim Horton Donut Shop at 65 Ottawa St. N. in 1965. After starting two more businesses, Joyce and Horton joined forces in 1967. Joyce acquired the current chain of 40 stores for $1 million after Horton passed away in 1974, and she swiftly and aggressively expanded the firm’s geographic reach and product offering. In 1991, the 500th shop opened.

According to a top corporate office on Monday, the Canadian restaurant brand Tim Hortons aims to invest up to Rs 300 crore in opening 120 locations in India over the next three years. The brand, which launched its first locations in India in August, initially concentrates on North India before expanding to other areas. In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the Indian Restaurant Congress 2022, the company’s India CEO NavinGurnaney stated, “The commitment that I made to the board is in the first 36 months of operation, in the first three years, there’ll be 120 stores (in India)” Given that the first year is devoted to “building the foundation” with 20 additional locations, the corporation may surpass its goal.

In the third year, he stated, there will be 60 new stores. According to him, all these stores would be owned by the corporation, and “the investment per store is between Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.5 crore.” Tim Hortons has six locations—five in Delhi-NCR and one in Chandigarh—and three more will open by December, according to Gurnaney. “We’re currently focused on the north, which is Delhi and Punjab but by early summer, late spring, we will be in Mumbai, Pune, Surat and Ahmedabad. There will be some off-highway locations. We are actually considering a few different locations in Bangalore, “said the CEO.

He stated that these would be located in office buildings, airports, high streets, and malls. He expressed optimism for the Indian market, “It is India’s consumer spending. Any retail brand has a strong chance of succeeding given the global aspirations, the variety of industries expanding into India and increasing people’s disposable income, and social media’s ability to influence how people think globally. However, how well you execute will ultimately determine your success “.
